New online Genomic Medicine with Data Science programme

Date

A new, fully online postgraduate programme is equipping professionals with specialist skills to transform the future of medicine.

Designed for professionals and graduates with a biological or medical background, the new Genomic Medicine with Data Science MSc opened for applications in December 2024, with the first cohort due to start in September 2025.

The programme combines data science with genomic medicine, which tailors medical care to an individual's genetic makeup (DNA). Modules also cover analytical skills such as statistical learning, clinical trials, big data and cancer drug development.

Careers which require both areas of expertise are growing, and the skills are in high demand for careers in clinical science, data analytics, clinical genetics, and computational biology. A Postgraduate Certificate programme is also offered to support career progression.

Providing the best online experience

Combining academic expertise with the latest learning design methodologies, it is part of the University’s drive to offer the highest quality online learning experiences that directly help students to progress their career

The modules include regular webinars with academic experts, engaging self-guided learning to fit around students’ other commitments.

As with the University's other fully online programmes, students will also have access to tailored academic support and access to other support services from across campus.

Learning wherever, whenever

This programme supports the University’s vision to be truly international. It is one of eight fully-online postgraduate programmes currently offered by the University of Leeds, which have more than 1,200 students from more than 90 countries.

Students can learn at their own pace, making it easier to manage studies and other responsibilities. With online discussion forums provided, students also have the opportunity to interact with peers across the globe.

Right now, the idea of using genetics as a routine part of clinical practice is just starting to open up. It’s an exciting time!
