On a busy University campus, finding a free environment to foster creativity and collaboration can sometimes be a challenge. However, for Rebekah Brown, a Theology and Religious Studies student and a group of interns working on a student guide project, HELIX proved to be a haven of innovation and productivity.

Rebekah shared her experience, exploring what drew her to HELIX, how she utilised the space, and the benefits she reaped from this dynamic new resource on campus.

Choosing HELIX

Rebekah and her project group embarked on their collaborative project in June. The decision to work from HELIX was influenced by the beneficial working environment it offered.

When asked about her choice of HELIX, Rebekah highlighted several key factors:

  • Versatile spaces: HELIX offers a variety of spaces, including private rooms, different-sized tables, and various working environments. This versatility allowed the project group to tailor their workspace to their specific needs.
  • Ambiance: Rebekah described HELIX as light, airy, and conducive to productivity. The presence of light background music gave it a café-like atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to work.
  • Modern amenities: HELIX incorporates high-tech gadgets and amenities, such as advanced presentation tools and technologies. These features added convenience to the group’s work.
  • Presentation facilities: The availability of a dedicated presentation space allowed the group to showcase their final project effectively.

HELIX can best be described as dynamic. It almost feels like it adapts to you with so many different spaces and amazing opportunities for creativity too. Working in HELIX also improved productivity amongst the group.

Utilizing HELIX

The project group made extensive use of HELIX's amenities and spaces:

  • Whiteboards and private rooms: These were the primary spaces for group work, facilitating brainstorming and discussions.
  • Film Studio: The group utilised the film studio to shoot promotional materials for their project, taking advantage of the studio's lighting equipment.
  • Presentation space: This space enabled them to present their final project to members of staff.

The Benefits of HELIX

Rebekah and the project group were keen to emphasise HELIX's unique appeal and its ability to promote and support creative outputs and collaboration, whether for academic or entrepreneurial endeavours. HELIX provided the facilities they needed for group work and discussion, a film studio with lighting for shooting the adverts for their student guides, and suitable space for showcasing their final presentation to a small audience.

Yes, I’d recommend HELIX to other students. It’s a unique space on campus that promotes creativity - whether that be thinking outside the box for an essay or creating something tangible for a business idea. It’s bursting with potential - for the space and for you too!

For these students, HELIX was a beacon of innovation and creativity on campus. The space offers a wide range of workspaces and resources to support both individuals and groups. Rebekah’s experience at HELIX demonstrates how the right space can enhance collaboration, productivity, and the overall quality of work.
