HELIX at the University of Leeds

Date

The University of Leeds will soon open the doors to a new digital innovation space named ‘HELIX’. The space will be an exciting development in the University’s drive to push our digital transformation strategy to both students and staff alike.

The University invests heavily in digital education by creating an ecosystem of specialist teams, developing tools and systems to support the academic community. HELIX will be the culmination of all this energy - creating a hub of activity for communities to explore, create, innovate, and interact with cross-functional teams.

As a creative space, HELIX looks to attract academic and professional staff, students, and external communities to collaborate with emergent technology, sharing space, resources, and ideas. Full to the brim with cutting-edge innovations, the ethos is ‘experimentation and curiosity'. We hope that all users will adopt this and have a great time in the process.

Margaret Korosec, Dean for Online and Digital Education comments

“We’re thrilled to be opening a brand-new space in the iconic EC Stoner building, focusing on innovative practices, digital technologies, and community building. HELIX is perfect for connecting the University with the city and its communities. It offers a mix of multi-purpose spaces for events and conferences, team building, networking activities, and public engagement. It'll feature immersive technologies, maker and prototyping equipment, cutting-edge multimedia production studios, and space for enterprise and flexible learning. We’re excited to see how HELIX develops over the next few months and years.”

HELIX will have its first foray into the limelight during ‘The Times Higher Education Digital Universities UK’ week on April 17, 2023. From then, preparations will continue for HELIX to open its doors to the whole community at the start of academic teaching, in September 2023.
