Record-high ratings for digital learning at Leeds
Conducted over a three‑week period in October, the 2025 edition of the Jisc Digital Experience survey was completed by 3,517 students, marking an +80% increase in responses from the last survey in 2023.
Initial analysis has shown that key indicators of overall student satisfaction with the quality of digital learning at Leeds have increased by +2%, with support to learn effectively using technology increasing by +11%.

Increased adoption of AI highlights need for targeted support
This year’s responses have reflected a significant increase in the adoption of AI, with 47% of respondents reporting that they use AI tools and identifying key benefits, including:
- Time savings (71%)
- Enhanced learning experience (63%)
- Improved learning outcomes (56%)
Confidence in using AI has also risen, accompanied by a decline in demand for introductory training. This shift may be attributed to the introduction of mandatory AI training at the start of the academic year.
Despite this step-change in both usage and confidence, students highlighted ongoing training needs—particularly around referencing when using AI—indicating that further targeted support would be valuable.

From insights to action
Deep analysis of the survey data is now underway to surface insights from across the student community, including their experience of using digital tools to learn, digital skills and capabilities, and the infrastructure that supports digital learning.
These insights will then be responded to through an action-planning process led by Chris Thompson, Head of Digital Media and Innovation.
A cross-functional working group, including colleagues from Digital Education, IT, and Library Services, will report to the Taught Student Experience Committee led by Professor Charlotte Haigh, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor Enhancement and Student Experience.
- Processing and analysis: Data dashboards and full insight report produced for internal review to surface early insights with Task and Finish group (January 2026)
- Action planning: Deep-dive to explore data, develop actions and connect to owners (February 2026)
- Outcomes: Ongoing monitoring and communication of actions and progress (September 2026)
Insights from the staff-facing survey, which collected over 500 responses from Academic and Professional Services colleagues, will also be included in the action planning.
Benchmark statistics from other HE institutions who participated in the Jisc Digital Experience survey will be available in May 2026.
