University of Leeds Partners with Meta for Education Beta Programme

Date

The University of Leeds is excited to announce its participation in the Meta for Education Beta Programme, a groundbreaking initiative by Meta to revolutionize educational experiences through immersive technologies.

Our role in Meta's Education Programme

This collaboration sees the University of Leeds join forces with other prestigious institutions from the US and UK, including Imperial College London and the University of Glasgow, to test and provide feedback on Meta's new education applications for Quest devices.

Supported through HELIX, the University’s new learning innovation centre, participants in the programme have gained early access to the Meta for Education platform. They provide feedback and user testing on a range of innovative apps and features designed to enhance learning. This initiative underscores the University's commitment to experimentation and innovation to improve educational outcomes and prepare students for the future.

The University's Digital Twin

In addition to this exciting new partnership, the University of Leeds continues its collaboration with VictoryXR to develop a 'Digital Twin' of the campus. This initiative, which began in March 2024, involves creating a virtual replica of select University buildings. It offers students unique and experimental learning opportunities that complement in-person classroom experiences. This ‘metaveristy’ allows students into an immersive environment that mirrors their physical campus.

Our partnership with Meta and VictoryXR exemplifies our bold ambitions in digital education. By embracing these innovative technologies, we are enhancing the learning experience for our students and positioning ourselves at the forefront of educational innovation.  Chris Thompson, Head of Digital Media and Innovation.
