Students will explore different circumstances of crossing borders focusing on motivations such as travel or immigration and understand the effects of the invisible borders we all cross everyday.

Through videos and articles, students will also examine the theories that underpin intercultural interactions and broaden their understanding of culture and intercultural communication.

On this online course, students will examine the idea of intercultural contact and the effects of cultural interactions from historical and global perspectives. Students will consider terms such as ‘globalisation’ and ‘acculturation’ and explore the relationship between nationality and culture.

On this online course, students will analyse why language is a social construction and examine how it relates to cultural identity. Students will learn about the controversial issue of language loss and examine the reasons that cause it and its implications for cultural identity.
Introduction to Intercultural Studies: The Branding of Culture
This online course introduces students to ways branding makes use of cultural stereotypes to promote products or places. Students will consider the effects this might have on national and cultural identity and explore how some products are becoming decoupled from their culture of origin whilst others are localised.
